The new year is a time for fresh starts and new beginnings. For many, this signifies the perfect occasion to reset and improve their diet. A growingly popular option is to go vegan, even if it’s just for the first month of the year. Why? Cutting down on or eliminating animal products from a diet can have many reasons, some of which include being more conscious about what you eat or as a way to be more environmentally friendly. Besides, if you give veganism a try for an entire month, you might be more likely to stick with it throughout the year.

So, what exactly does vegan mean?

Veganism is a lifestyle that seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Put simply, veganism is about living without using animals. Thus, a vegan diet is one that excludes all animal products – that means no meat, poultry, fish, dairy, eggs, or honey. For some, it is an ethical decision, for others, it is a health decision. Some people even choose to go vegan for environmental reasons. Whatever your reasons for considering veganism are, the New Year is the perfect time to try it out.
