History of Cheese in the United States

The cheese industry in the United States has a history that dates back to the 17th century when Dutch settlers began producing cheese in the state of New York. As the country grew and expanded, so did the cheese industry. In the 19th century, cheese factories began to emerge in the Midwest, where dairy farms were abundant. These factories used new technology to increase efficiency and produce cheese on a larger scale. Today, the United States is one of the largest producers of cheese in the world, including over 1,000 varieties. Cheese production is an important industry in many parts of the country, particularly in Wisconsin, California, and New York.
